I went to a chinese joint in L.A. and asked for crab rangoon and they didn't know what I was talking about. In the midwest, I could find it anywhere. If it's "chinese" food, how come it's limited regionally here in the state??

  1. not everything in a chinese restaurant is authentic..like chicken wings..they arent chinese at all!! and i dont think the crab rangoon is either..chinese people dont eat cheese that much..in fact its not really a food considered in china..and in the east side theres a lot of chinese restaurants with crab rangoon..just that the more authentic chinese restaurants dont sell them.

  2. it's AMERICAN Chinese - not authentic and was invented in the MidWest.

The Chinese don't cook with cream cheese.

  3. Dont ou love these!!!!I dont know but I had to go to 8 places here  in the midwest to find one that made it.  I make my own.  They are so simple.  Just buy a package of the wonton dough, 1 package cream cheese and soften it, buy flaked imitation crab and green onion.  You just add crab and onion to the cream cheese to your taste, add 1/2 t. worchestire sauce, 1/2 t soy sauce and stir.  Then put a tablespoon on 1 wonton and fold up into a triangle and crimp the edges (wet edges to crimp) and then deep fry a few minutes.   I guess this wont help you traveling but if you are ever having a party or have a craving, they are easy.

  4. American "ethnic" food (particularly Asian food) was invented, not authentic. For example, a Thai restaurant where I live serves crab rangoon, but they are called butterflies and served with a different dipping sauce than crab rangoon.
