My laptop had a blu-ray player and I wanted to watch a movie on my hd lcd tv. So when I connected my laptop and tv together with a HDMI cable, I get the picture on my tv but the sound doesnt travel through the tv. The only way I can get any sound is through my laptop speakers.

  1. HDMI is only for video. You will need a 3.5mm to RCA (headphone to red and white plugs) converter to get the sound out of your laptop

  2. Check this article from HP

  3. go in the speakers configuration and configere them to output on hdmi otherwise they will only play on the standard speakers

  4. most computers will only output video through the HDMI output. your laptop may have either an optical or digital output for sound.

  5. You can tease the sound out of HDMI. On a PS3 there is a setting in a control panel for this, I'm sure your sound and/or video card is the same, and you can adjust it from there.

  6. Ok first a question - is the output from your laptop HDMI or DVI?  I know that DVI does not pass audio but that HDMI does.  So if you are using a DVI to HDMI cable you're not going to get audio.   However, If you do have HDMI, then  you need to go into your configuration to allow HDMI to pass the audio.  I don't think that is set by default so that is why do don't get audio.  If that doesn't work, do you have digital audio output?  If so you may need to hook up your audio that way.
