Question:

How come Mayweather does'nt want to fight Cotto?

It seems like a logical match up, two highly skilled undefeated guys in the peak of their careers. What will Mayweather's legacy be if he only chooses to fight guys he knows he can beat like Oscar, Diego, Gatti and Hatton and passes on who could be challenging opponents such as Cotto and Sugar Shane?

  1. Floyd does not want his zero to go, With that 'zero' on the right of the '39' bigger paychecks are guarantee.

Cotto has mentioned Floyd name several times at interviews for many years now, but funny I never hear Floyd call out Margarito, Shane, Cotto, Paul Williams. Floyd needs to remember that all the money he made so far is thanks to boxers willing to fight him. But he is not returning the favor. What an A**.

Floyd you brag about being the best, well prove it to the fans.

Talk the talk but I don't see the Walk.

  2. Because Cotto is Mayweathers KRYPTONITE!!!!!!

Lets cut the foreplay and get right into it.

Cotto is a RELENTLESS fighter who has much skill as a Boxer as seen last night, a Slugger, much of a knock out artist

    and all around fighter.

    Just Mayweather's worst nightmare.

Cotto will fight Margarito this july

Margarito is one of the MOST avoided fighters of the past 5 years, Shane, Floyd, OScar all turned down 8-10 million $$ offers of fighting Margaito, Cotto dont care

    Just like a true champ

None the less Mayweather cant run, avoid and make excuses forever after cotto defeats margarito he will be the

UNIFIED WBA IBF champion and if floyd wants

to prove he is the best welterweight of this era

he will HAVE to fight Cotto,

    if he doesnt then

Much of the WHOLE boxing world will loose Respect for

    mr Floyd "Running" Gayweather

  3. plain and simple mayweather is afraid to fight an opponent who can actually hurt him even if he blocks his shots. His excuse not to fight him is that cotto is not a big draw but cotto is a bigger draw then mayweather.

And just because cotto dont call out mayweather dont mean hes avoiding him. If u notice cotto dont call out anyone he just fights who ever bob arum puts in front of him.

  4. Mayweather has exited boxing long ago and entered into the world of entertainment. I have always believed Mayweather was a great fighter and that most could not possibly beat him, but let him step in the ring with Cotto or any other world class boxer and he will lose. Being a showman and an entertainer now he doesn't want to risk getting hurt. He is no longer hungry and doesn't have that same fire that drove him in his earlier career. Simply put getting wealthy has made him soft.

  5. Mayweather doesn't want to fight any serious welterweight.  Margarito is 5'11" and would tower over Floyd as almost as much as Williams does, and can you imagine Floyd's pitty pats trying to slow Margarito, Antonio would walk Floyd down if Mayweather tried to pot shot and run like he did with DeLa  Hoya.  Clottey his just as dangerous as Quintana, maybe more so, and Cotto is the best of them all.  Floyd would have his hands full with any of them. Corrales, Hatton and Gotti were never true welterweights any more than Floyd is a true welter weight, and DeLa Hoya is old and slow, a name fighter well past his prime, all of the younger welterweights are serious threats to Mayweather, and I can assure you this plays a role in Floyd's reluctance to take on any of them.  Mayweather is simply not as dominate at 147 as he was between 130-140 and it shows.  Floyd ducked Shane Mosley for the same reasons he did the rest, he feared Shane's speed and size would spell the end of his undefeated record.  With all due respect to Floyd and his fans, Floyd simply hasn't put up P4P stats at 147, he has ducked too much competition.

Mayweather doesn't want Cotto because Cotto out boxed Shane Mosley and would most likely give Floyd the fight of his life.  Floyd might win, but Cotto would take a part of Floyd with him in losing that Floyd doesn't want to give.  It's not about money, fear or whether one challenged the other, it's healthy mutual respect for two great fighters who know they will have to leave part of themselves in the ring to beat the other.

Hopefully, a Cotto/Mayweather fight will happen, but it is unlikely.  Floyd simply won't take the risk.  Nobody took Floyd's mythical P4P status away from him, he simply walked away from it without defending it at welterweight.

  6. Mayweather knows he doesn't have a good chance against Cotto, and Cotto is not going to call him out because he feels its not his job.

Cotto will relentlessly assault him until he can't go on anymore. Mayweather is scared.

Mayweather doesn't fight people he can't beat. He dodged out on Maragito too.

  7. Would be an excellent fight.  I can't stand all the trash talking.  Cotto for the win.

  8. Eric please list the lots of "great" fighters you speak of. Take DLH, who is way past his prime, and Castillo who beat him the first time who do you have left that's great?

    Judah?

    Mitchell?

    Baldomir ?

    Gatti ?

    Corrales ?

These are the "great" fighters you speak of ? I'm not saying that Cotto has fought any better competition. But we have to be honest about what we consider to be "great".

And great fighters in the Welterweight division he has not fought, not one. Don't mention Hatten becasue he would be slaugtered by almost any top 10 opponent in this division. His KO over Hatten was unimpressive.

To answer the question, 1. PBF is willing to fight DLH again, b/c he knows he can beat him. DLH doesn't have a chance the 2nd time around. 2. He wants the welters to go at it so that if cotto loses he doesn't have to face him and he'll face Margo who was outboxed by Paul Williams and Margo would probably lose to Floyd.

He wants to avoid Cotto at all costs.

  9. I think Cotto is going to challenge Mayweather after his fight with margarito, mayweather is fighting Hatton and De La Hoya for the money, as far as cotto is concerned I think he will fight him before he retires for good..

  10. He sees an Actual threat in him, he does not want to lose. Which he knows that would be a possiblity fighting cotto. In the end he will fight him and it will be a great fight.

  11. The real question is, why hasn't cotto asked for a fight with Mayweather? (thumbs up to ericktravel, spot on answer)

  12. This question gets asked everytime and i can't help but wonder why people do not realize one simple fact COTTO HAS NOT CALLED OUT MAYWEATHER FOR A FIGHT!!! Mayweather is the pound for pound king, if Cotto wants to fight with him all he has to do is say it and he has not done that yet, even Bob Arum has not called out Mayweather, and Floyd is the champion he does not have to go out and challenge people, people should challenge him, I am sick and tired of people saying that PBF is dodging Cotto and that Cotto this and Cotto that....Mayweather has already beaten lots of great fighters if Cotto wants to fight him all he as to do is ask and he hasn't done that.

  13. If Cotto is smart, he's going to wait until Mayweather shows signs of aging before he starts begging for a fight.  As it stands now, Floyd would machine gun Cotto.  Cotto is too slow to mount much of an attack.  Like a dude throwing rocks at a man with a machine gun.  Wait for the guy with the gun to run out of bullets before you take him on.
