  1. because hes a moanin old git and makes rude remarks about foreign people when he meets them, hes best kept out of the way

  2. i don`t know dear but i know he is of Greek heritage , maybe that has something to do with it , but he is a fine looking chap don`t you think !

  3. First of all it's "Queen of the UK".

Second of all, he is not of the bloodline. That's why.

  4. Kings can only be made by blood because they are the highest authority, not by marriage unlike queens. Since Lizzy's parents never had any sons, she was next in line for the throne (a male brother would have been king no matter how old he was)

  5. Because there is no title of King consort in england.

There are two kinds of Queens, queen consorts (married to a King) and Queens Regnant (inherited the throne in their own right).  There haven't been very many Queens Regnant because usually there is a son to inherit.  The last Queen Regnant before our present Queen, Queen Victoria, did want her husband to be King Consort, but it was not allowed, so he had to make do with being Prince Consort.

  6. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, 10 June 1921) is the husband and consort of Queen Elizabeth II.

Originally a royal Prince of Greece and Denmark, Prince Philip renounced these titles shortly before his marriage, though he retains the Greek flag (white cross on blue field) on his Shield of Arms. At the time of his engagement he was known as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. On 20 November 1947, he married Princess Elizabeth, the heiress presumptive to King George VI. Prince Philip is a member of the Danish-German House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg... which includes the royal houses of Denmark and Norway and the deposed royal house of Greece.

The day before his marriage, King George VI granted him the style of His Royal Highness and, on the morning of the marriage, created him Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich. In 1957, Philip was created a Prince of the United Kingdom by Queen Elizabeth II. When he became a British subject, Prince Philip took the surname Mountbatten, an anglicised version of his mother's German family name, Battenberg. (Later it was realised that, as a descendant of Sophia of Hanover, Philip had been a British subject from birth.)

In addition to his royal duties, the Duke of Edinburgh is also the patron of many organisations, including The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the World Wide Fund for Nature, and he is Chancellor of both the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge. In particular, he has devoted himself to raising public awareness of the relationship of humanity with the environment since visiting the Southern Antarctic Islands in 1956, and has published and spoken widely for half a century on this subject. See Wikiquote excerpts from these speeches.

The prince continues to fulfil his public duties as a member of the British Royal Family, and is an established public figure in the United Kingdom and in the Commonwealth Realms. He has gained a reputation for making controversial remarks, some of which have been interpreted as being racist, particularly when meeting the British public or on state visits to other countries.

  7. Philip is simply a spouse. Elizabeth was HEIR to the throne. While there is a Queen Regnant as monarch,no one can bear a title higher than hers. The title of King is considered higher than Queen and this won't do as long as the Queen is monarch. The United Kingdom does not use the title of "King Consort" for the spouse of a Queen Regnant. The UK uses "Prince Consort."

Philip is of Royal birth,of the Royal House of Schlesweig-Holstein-Sonderburg-

Glucksburg, and is a third cousin to his wife.

He became a naturalized British citizen to better his chances of marrying Elizabeth.King George VI gave him back his royal status as Duke of Edinburgh but he also made a mistake; George thought that by giving Philip back his royal status, he gave the title of prince back, too. He forgot that Philip gave up his Greek citizenship and title;this was rectified by Elizabeth, who made her husband not just a prince, but a prince of his adopted country, the UK.

  8. The Queen has never seen fit to make Prince Philip her Prince Consort, a title that Queen Victoria bestowed upon her husband, Prince Albert--never mind Philip Mountbatten receiving the title "King of England".   Indeed, what titles Philip has the Crown has begrudgingly bestowed, upon consent of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, in part because of his family's ties to the n***s during World War II.  All of Philip's sisters married German army officiers.

Born a prince of Greece and Denmark, Philip renounced any foreign titles the day before his marriage whereupon George VI granted him the style of "His Royal Highness" and on the morning of his wedding created him Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich.  Before marrying the heir apparent to the English throne, Philip had to covert from Greek Orthodoxy to the Church of England and become a naturalized British subject.  However, George VI, who never liked or completely trusted his future son-in-law, clearly intended to withhhold any princely titles from him.

Meanwhile Philip's uncle, the Earl of Mountbatten, advocated that upon the marriage of Elizabeth and Philip that the British Royal house should adopt the name of "Mountbatten".  Prime Minister Winston Churchill, upon hearing of these plans from Queen Mary, quickly put an end to them.

In 1957, Queen Elizabeth requested that Philip be made a Prince of the United Kingdom.  After much discussion, during the tenure of Prime Minister Harold Macmillian, the British Cabinet finally came up with an official title for Philip:  "His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh." Moreover, as of 1960, those male-line descendants not already styled as Royal Highness or Prince received permission to write their House's name as Mountbatten-Windsor.

Accordingly, Prince Philip walks behind Queen Elizabeth and calls her "Ma'am".

  9. Because he is not in line to the throne

  10. First of all, Philip doesn't have a chance of being King of England because there isn't a Kingdom of England.

This question is asked about once a week. The answer is that the style of "king consort" has fallen out of fashion and wasn't used for the previous two men eligible for it: Prince George of Denmark-Norway and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The reason being is that Europe as a whole was moving away from the notion of jus uxoris rulers, which is Latin for "by right of the wife". Women were ruling in their own right and it was less and less often that one would find a queen regnant being overshadowed by a king consort, which was always a risk.

BEC, "king" is not always higher than queen. Elizabeth II isn't automatically outranked by kings on the continent. A king-consort is explicitly lower in rank. He is also firstly a second cousin once removed of his wife, the third cousinship being a more distant relationship.

Brainstorm, Philip is in line of succession. He is descended from Queen Victoria.

Everyone who is saying kings cannot have that title by marriage, I motion to the numerous Spanish, Scottish and Portuguese kings consort.

  11. uh because hes not royal blood a little history of the Royal system would inform you that only Royal blood can be king and queen

  12. Because he's a foreign chappie and we can't have that.

  13. He only married Queen Elizabeth and isn't from her direct blood line.

  14. She was not best pleased

  15. This is why, the actual reason

when a King marries a woman, she becomes the queen.  Kingis the highest royal authority, so if a woman is crowned by blood, whomever she marries cannot become a higher authority than her, ie King.  He would then be more powerful (in royal terms) simply through marriage, which can't happen, thus he is a Prince.

  16. Prince Phillip ( old Grouch) is of royalty only in Greece his family had to go after the second world war as far as I know

  17. Because he was never heir to the throne.  He married the heiress, Princess Elizabeth.

She became queen on the death of her father snce there was no male heir.

He was made prince as her consort.

He is the father of Prince Charles, next in line for the throne.

He is the grandfather of Harry and William the oldest of whom will eventually become king.
