How come Wikipedia's hockey page lists notable players but...?

they have Crosby next to Gordie Howe? I know I'm not a Pittsburgh fan and I don't mean to make Pittsburgh fans angry at me because a lot of my friends actually are Pittsburgh fans and there are too many non hockey question to channel our anger to...but isn't that kind of strange? They have Steve Yzerman, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Sidney Crosby, and Maurice Richard. I know Crosby will be a good player later on in life but for right now does he really deserve to be listed next to such great players who won Stanley Cups when he hasn't even won anything yet?

I don't know, it's just my opinion. What are your thoughts?

  1. I agree with you.  Stevie Y, Gretzky, Mr. Hockey, and the Rocket all had great careers.  As of now, Crosby just has had a great couple seasons.  He will be worthy with those names later, but as of now, the kids not even old enough to legally drink.

  2. Probably because the site records hits of popularity as a statistic and not a measure of ability. Start a campaign of Dallas Drake hits and watch Wiki raise his popularity for example.

  3. They should have eliminated it completely, as had been planned in some of the talk. Yzerman and no Mario? Richard and no Orr? Crosby and No Ovechkin? You only have 2 of the consensus top 4 players ever on there- including the two that a lot of people consider to be the most skilled ever- Mario and Bobby Orr.

It's a stupid, subjective list that's never going to be complete.

  4. I am a Pens fan first off. And i think the only reason he is there is because he is the "face of the NHL" right now (i hate that term since there are a ton of great young players)

when someone who knows nothing about hockey goes to wiki, they will see sidney with these all time greats, maybe they will click on them and learn something. but who knows...

    please start the season NOW!

  5. Crosby, regardless of who wants or doesn't want to admit it, is a popular player.. which is why he is on Wikipedia's hockey page. But, then again anybody who has the internet can edit Wikipedia.

  6. WIKIPEDIA has numerous flaws

    dont use that site

  7. i agree with you. personally i am so sick of crosby. what happened to ovechkin???? he had more points and he is the only good player on his team and he has no one to support him and cindy crosbaby has malkin sand plenty of others

  8. I think that the key word here is "notable".  I agree that Sid hasn't done anything, but he is, like it or not, deserved or not, the most "notable" player in the league right now, mainly because of the hype and his skillset.  If someone is going to wikipedia to learn about hockey, and notable hockey players, they probably don't know much about hockey, and therefore should learn who the most "notable" active player is, as well as the other 3 greats.  A bigger concern is that Lemieux and Bobby Orr (greatest player EVER!) aren't considered notable by whoever wrote that.

If the wiki page were to say "greatest" hockey players, then they're obviously wrong.

  9. Come on. It's wikipedia. You have to take that reference site with a grain of salt.  On any site where ANYONE can edit details and present them as fact (when the vast majority of times they are anything but) and the site in turn presents them as fact, you have to just let some things slide.

  10. Wikipedia has alot of errors. The number 1 person people look up now Is Crosby so yes he would be next to Gordie.Of course he doesn't belong on the list yet. These are all Hall of Fame players and some may put Top 2 or 3 as the greatest of All Time.

I'm sure if you look up singers or something along those lines on Wikipedia,Paris Hilton & John Mayer would be up there too.

  11. Good question.  I would put Mario beside Howe before Sid but things will change.
