  1. Well, the Yankees mgmt always seems to at least try to do what it takes to give the team the best chance to win now.  They spend a LOT of money on payroll and aren't afraid to clear their farm system of prospects to get the players they need to win NOW.  How can you complain about that?

  2. Yankees players do have gripes with management at times. However, they tend to keep their gripes in-house and try to handle them quietly. Joe Torre was well known as a good handler of egos and that's why there were not many blowups by players in the media. The New York media is already pretty voracious, so the Yankees always try to handle things quietly. It's less about money than it is about nipping things in the bud early.

  3. Money makes even the worst malcontent happy.  The first day when they tell Manny to cut his hair, the problems start.

  4. Because they don't dare. One wrong sentence the fans and media will send them into oblivion.

  5. The Yankees players know that the management is trying to do what is best for them, the team, and the future of the ball club.  There is a lot of history there, and year after year, the Yankees management tries hard to make decisions that will do justice to the storied past of the organization.  They also do their best to keep the players satisfied.  Are their choices always perfect?   Of course not - but they try very hard.

The players, in turn, know they are in NY to do a job.  They were chosen because they are good at what they do, and they are compensated very, very well for their abilities - and they work hard to prove that the management made the right choice.

I think that there is also a lot of pride that goes along with playing in pinstripes - no one in their right mind is going to do anything that would destroy their chances of wearing that uniform.

Apparently, there isn't as much pride in Boston... they put up with a lot from their prima donna players there.
