Question:

How come a .BIN file wont play on my DVD player?

right i burned a disk which was a .bin file and it comes up with the message "unknown disk" but the file will play in windows media player !!!!!! Any ideas?

  1. DVD players play mpeg2, they don't recognise other file types unless you have special dvd players that can.

    You would need to convert the file to an mpeg2 first.

    Windows media can ploay it because it has a plug in that recognises the file.


  2. .BIN usually refers to a disk image and most likely has a .CUE file for image burning.

    You don't drag the file onto a disk and burn it. You must take an additional step and tell the burner that the .BIN is an image and to burn the contents of .BIN to the disk. The new disk will have folders/files/etc instead of just a single .BIN file.
