They kept losing games and not playing that well last season, then eventually lost out to Fiorentina and end up in 5th place which is for UEFA cup place.

Ac Milan wasn't banned, they finished in 5th place last year which means they didn't qualify for the Champions league. They will be playing in the UEFA Cup this year.

AC Milan was 5th in Serie A last season. In Italy, England and Spain the number of maximum teams that can play in CL is 4. The 1st and 2nd will be automatically advance to the group stage. Whereas the 3rd and 4th must go through the qualifying round. Hence Milan play in the UEFA Cup.

well the champions league are only for teams that are in 4th place and up in their league so AC Milan finished 5th but at least they went to the UEFA Cup
