How come all passenger cars don't come with full roll cages?

So you've seen race cars with full roll cages and such and when they have a spectacular crash, the cages seem to protect the occupants. So why not have all passenger cars equipped with them so that they're more safe when in a major collision on the streets?

  1. roll cages would deter from following speedlimits

    cost

    appearance

  2. They kinda do, actually.  The door pillars and roof are part of the vehicle's frame structure.  Just try sawing them off and watch your car get totally flippy-floppy.  (this is a problem in convertible conversions).

They don't have obnoxious, intrusive roll cages like race cars, because the general public isn't real into climbing into their cars through the windows like the Dukes of Hazzard.

If you're going to adapt one single piece of racing technology to improve the safety of cars, my vote is for the decent seatbelts they use. You may not get people to wear crotch straps or helmet straps, but 4 points with 3" wide straps would be worlds better.

  3. do you kow how expensive roll cages are?

  4. The reason for this is that they are PASSENGER Cars.

    - Intended for light duty use

    - Drivers are not allowed to break speed limits

    - Drivers are not allowed to drive F1 style on public roads

    - Drivers are Not always trained to handle a car this way

    - The Roll cages actually reduce a 5 seater to 2 seats (room)

However, there are airbags, EBA, ESP, ABS.

  5. Putting "full" roll cages in cars would maybe save more lives but at the same time they would hamper emergency crews trying to remove the victim from a crash.......plus the price of the vehicle would go up alot........

  6. because they are not necissary unless you are going at an exess of 60MPH

  7. because it would take up a lot of room make it very hard to get in and out ect race car doors dont open for the point of there are bars on the inside of thedoors they also have no back seat because thats where two or more of the bars are connected ect....

  8. Because if you obey the speed limit and drive sensibly you will never roll a car over

Because in certain collisions impact with the roll cage could do more damage

Because seat belts and air bags are more effective passenger safety devices

Because they add a couple of hundred pounds to kerb weight

Because they are only effective in conjunction with helmets and safety harnesses. Most Americans have trouble with wearing a simple seatbelt
