I asked a question on Raw Knuckle bones, that got 3 great answers (thanks guys!) but yet, when some babbling buffoon asks, they get 40 ok answers....

Why do you think its that way?!

Legit:

  1. Prong, all the time..

Because it is easier to come up with a name for a dog then it is to use your head and actually understand dog behavior.

Out of the millions of people on here, maybe 10 know dogs really well and can discuss just about any issue concerning one.

    Hope I helped!

  2. I just asked this same question the other day. It's so frustrating...I didn't see your Q or I would've answered. Post the link here and everyone will answr :D

I use prong collars for training.

  3. Because people are  just looking to blow off their big mouths over nothing cause that's what they know.

Depends on the dog.  My son has a husky and the prong works for him but I know people who won't use them  Thank Goodness I've never had to use either one.

  4. because at any one time there are a very select few that actually are well versed in dogs who can actually answer legit questions with real answers any person with 2 brain cells can get 2 points for saying "go to the vet"in 40 different ways  or whatever rambling happens around here.

And my opinion on halti vs prong, it depends on the dog.

  5. people like to answer the easy questions for points

    Legit: Prong

  6. Definitely prong collar.  Halti's stop the bad behavior but they don't teach the dog anything.  A prong collar, however, will teach the dog the walk nicely - he is actually causing the unpleasant sensation all by himself by pulling.  When he walks nicely without pulling, the prong collar is completely painless.  Eventually the dog will make the connection and you may not need it anymore.

PS - didn't answer the knuckle bone question because I don't know anything about that.

  7. I wonder the same thing! Maybe it's just easier to yell at an idiot BYB than answer a serious question.

I don't know anything about Knuckle bones anyway, sorry.  :[

Oh, and I just use the collar I got at PetSmart.  :]

  8. Who knows? I try to convince myself it is because no one with any knowledge in the area happens to be online--- but.. ah. I don't think that's quite it. Everybody likes to try to educate those who don't know any better, instead of helping someone who genuinely just wants to KNOW! haha.

Otherwise, I prefer halti collars. (: Don't use either on my three dogs right now, but over all I've found that haltis are more sensible-- I don't have very large or strong breeds, mind you. A Newfoundland with a prong collar doesn't make much sense. They're a fairly obedient breed to start with.

  9. I don't feed raw bone so I didn't answer your question.  The other is fairly evident.

It's so much easier to answer a question that they can handle rather than one they don't know anything about!

I use a prong collar on one of my golden's!

  10. Definitely a halter! I have one for my dog and it worked WONDERS! Before i had it she almost pulled me into the creek at the park after some ducks (shes 1/2 bird dog) i got it and now i have 100% control! I work at Petsmart and talked a lady into buying one for her st. bernard (because i could tell it was killing her arm and i was seriously afraid the dog was going to hurt her or pull her down) and it was a puppy at that time. She came 2 weeks later and thanked me and told me how happy she was that i helped her with it! i think prong collars are cruel

  11. Hmm... I don't know. I didn't know the answer to the RKB Q either. I must be a buffoon today.

I just logged on a few minutes ago.

I have a big bad headache. Hubby is at a friend's house. The dogs are really energetic and I want to take a nap.

Did I answer your question? Probably not.

    Hi anyway!

  12. The simplest questions are a quick two points, whereas one must know what they're talking about to give a correct answer to a more complex question.

Canny collar is better than either of them.

    http://www.cannyco.com/

The dogs I am going to show, learn good head carriage, and I have total control. It works like a bitless bridle, ( yep, has two 'reins') and it IS a teaching tool, as they behave so much better when put back on a regular collar. Keeps their head up from sniffing the ground, and they quickly learn to focus and 'stay with me' when walking.

I have an 'old' back, and can't risk a jerk from these huge dogs when they see a small furry running. (and they see for like a mile)

I tried Gentle Leader, and Halti... G.L. fits better and works a little better, but both cause my hounds to carry their heads too low. Prong collar was a living nightmare in that LONG coat..(like when you turn around a brush or comb in long hair, and pull more out before you can get it untangled)

Then, someone recommended the Canny..as especially good for show dogs. I was happily amazed.

I have donated 14 of them to our local shelter, as they help them get homes for the dogs. The dog is immediately under control, and comfortable, too..

  13. Because the 40 answers are all from baffoons too.

    Prong collar, no doubt.

  14. I'm pretty new here but yea i kinda noticed that too. and both. halti's work great with most dogs, but sometimes a prong is necessary. i don't understand why people think they are SO bad! sure it looks like a torture device, but hey when you have a 90+ pound dog pulling your arm off, you need it! and they are perfectly humane.

  15. Cause it is their language and they are easy to answer.

  16. Probably because it's much more difficult to give an answer to a "real" question than it is to give a name for someones Goldenrottipoo.

Halti, although I would love to see one of my Chihuahua's wearing a prong collar made of toothpicks! *LOL*

  17. i think prongs are good for training first use this til there a good walker then get them a k or martingale collar, i know what you mean about good questions that people really want to know, i asked a question about if mount hood was fire prone and i got one answer that i could berely understand, ten i saw a bafoon question that got 20 answers, (in other sections thats a lot)

  18. People don't know the real dog stuff.

Ask - What do I name my dog?

Get - 54 Responses and everyone of them says 'Fido' in their 'names' list.

Ask - Why is training so important?

Get - 7 Answers, 5 from Y!A dog regulars with knowledge and 2 other people with no knowledge.

^ See ^ People only know the 'basics'.

Legit - Neither... I use an everyday collar.

  19. Because the babbling buffoons Qs are much easier to answer, as most people here understand that language. :P
