  1. our great government thought it would be a great way to raise revenue when everyone is forced to buy Digital TV's or converter boxes, Since the TV's are very expensive the government gets its share of like 5 to 10% of Sales, Think of all the mountains of perfectly good TV sets shipped off to the dumps!

  2. excellent question! This is a good example of industry convincing ($$$) government to pass laws to make them more money.

Could it have been optional? sure!

Digital signals can piggy back analog signals in the same band. It is done all the time.

  3. cuz the government hates us. Anyone who doesn't have digital tv by now is stupid

  4. All television stations in USA will stop broadcasting for non-digital TV's at the end of 2009.  Your non-digital TV will still work.  But it won't have any broadcasts to receive.  Which means that all you will get will be a blank screen.

  5. Because  the F.C.C wants the frequencies being used currently in the VHF/UHF band, and they are going to be reallocatted for wireless services to the highest bidder.

  6. To confuse the simple minded.

  7. In february 2009 all digital broadcast will start. If you have Directv or cable or another satellite company the only thing you will lose is any local channels you may have to get using an antenna. If you get your locals from any of these companies you will not need a new tv or converter box at all. The only reason you will need these is if you use an off air antenna. Many people think that they have to convert to high definition but this is not true. I work for a satellite company so I know this is all correct. Hope this helps
