  1. Theta, Gamma and Alpha wave CD's are science fiction. Are you sure you are taking yer meds?

  2. Why are you asking this question in philosophy? Try psychology, you may get an answer that actually means something.

  3. because you are getting smarter

  4. There are those out there who think the brain gets used to particular binaural mixes, Brian Mercer for example.  With Holosync, what they do is sell you a new set with the same left/right frequency disparity but with a lower pitch carrier signal to keep you going.  So you might want to try some variations of your own (by downloading BWGen, say) and see if those have any effect.

However, I went through a few months of reduced response too, but kept using them anyway, and eventually they started working again, so I'm not 100% convinced by the above argument.  In my case I think I'd let my relaxation technique slip, and putting them on in the middle of the night and suddenly getting good results again seemed to confirm this.

As far as meds go, the Monroe Institute does recommend no drugs or alcohol for binaurals, so they're likely to be having some sort of impact as well.

Training your brain to generate alpha, theta, or gamma waves doesn't appear to be all that important to the cognitive abilities, relaxation, or meditative success.

It appears that they are more like harmonic waves generated by the neuronal activity in various parts of your brain.   In other words you are treating the symptoms rather than the reasons for the symptoms.

My impression of such brain gadgetry is that they are quack science and are more of a placebo effect than anything real or important.

Everyone has some brain limitations of one type or another.  My daughter is ADD and graduated from Yale University c um laude.  She is working on her Ph.D. now at another university and she is still ADD.  My son was so ADD in elementary school that he had to be placed on medication for about a year.  He graduated in computer engineering from Cal Poly and is a successful Java programmer.  I won't go into how messed up I am.

You have bipolar condition.  Depending on how well you are handling your medication your real success depends upon you developing the work around that fits your needs.  I've had bipolar students in my classes.  I ignore their condition and I treat them the same as any other student and don't allow them to use their condition as an excuse for not being the best they can.  You can succeed at any goal you want.  You just have an agenda that is a little different than anyone else.

The fact that you recognize that the brain training CD you used is not effecting you any more simply means that the placebo effects wore off.  Sort of like Dumbo when he lost the magic feather.  You can fly.  You don't need a gadget to solve your problems for you.  That is just a crutch that you don't need.  You are capable!
