How come cars in England have the steering wheel on the right side?

i noticed that england is one of the only countries that has cars in which the driver sits on the right side of the car..

why is this?

  1. because they drive on the left side of the road not the right like us


  2. Could you honestly not work this one out for yourself? We drive on the left in the UK. It's been like that since before your country was even conceived, although the roads were used by horse-drawn carriages then!

  3. It stems back from the days of duals on horse back everyone passed on the left of the road so there right arm i.e there stronger arm was available to fight if the person they were passing turned nasty. Also a right handed person finds it easier to mount a horse from the left hand side therefore out of the flow of traffic.

  4. lol actually most countries in the world have their steering wheels on the right side...Britain is not the only one...U.S. is one of the few that drive on the right side and have our steering wheels on the left side...Jamaica, Australia, and almost all countries in Asia and Europe have their steering wheels on the right side.
