How come democrats were dying for a washington outsider in the primaries?

but now that mccain has picked Palin who is an outsider for his VP they all hate her for some odd reason they have yet to clarify. shouldnt they like her? obama is not an outsider, hes the same old chicago political machine thats been around for decades
