How come elephants and tortoises live for so long and why do they live longer than dogs?

Tortoises have a slow reptilian metabolism.They burn energy slowly and move slowly.Also they have less natural predators due to their hard shell which is almost impossible to break.

They don't have to hunt, stalk, trap, or wrestle their food which all takes a lot of energy. Vegetation digests more slowly and takes energy to digest.

Besides foraging, tortoises don't move a lot most of the time. Even foraging rarely takes them outside a rather small territory.Also by research it shows that elephants and tortoises have a strong immune system.

But dogs are active animals which perform a lot of activities.They need lot of energy and consume lot of food.

They also reproduce quickly which is an important factor for their short lifespan.
