How come every time i serve i always end up hurting my arm and when i do it hurts for days?

  1. I used to have that problem too.  I'm not sure if mine would actually hurt for days because of my serve because I was playing volleyball for about 5 hours a day, but my serve WAS causing the pain!  Anyways...most likely it's because when you serve, instead of either keeping your arm up there or following through, your swinging ACROSS your body.  If it's hurting in that spot that's not your underarm but it's on the front of your body and up a little, that's probably why.  Otherwise you might not be warming up enough before you serve.

  3. It could be a few things-

    Make sure you use the bow and arrow approach- your serve will be more accurate and you will not be putting so much stress on your arm.

    Make sure you warm up for serve or it could result in injury.

    You might already be injured minorly, like a pulled muscle.

    Make sure your hand is stiff- therefore relieving some stres from the upper arm.

    Is your ball an official volleyball- if your not using something like Tachikara or Wilson your ball may be the wong size, texture, or weight.

  4. I think that it might be because you are serving too hard with out doing a really good warm up first.

    your arm could be in the wrong position and you are putting stress on the joint.

    you might also be putting too much into it, beleive it or not to get the ball in play you do not have to "kill" it.

    another option is to go for a higher percentage ( for some) definetly less stressful, underhand serve.

    If the injury persists you should get it checked out, often there will be swelling, when the body is trying to protect itself from further injury.

    Talk to your coach, team trainer or your family doctor if things do not improve.

  6. You have to use your whole body to accelerate the ball. A good fast overhand serve uses the the stomach muscles and involves a transfer of body weight from the back to the front foot. By crunching in at the waist and moving you are getting your whole body behind it. Using arm action alone, you will end up putting too much strain on your elbow or shoulder joints. Get a coach to look at your action

  7. Streach reallllllllllly well before playing volleyball and after playing.

  8. You're hitting it too hard.
