I had this magenta paper in my hand, and I was reading the blue text on it and when I looked up everything white or tan was green for a bit. Why is this?

  1. Well, I forgot about all the scientific mumbo jumbo that I learned in school, but basically, if I remember correctly, it goes like this.

You have different cells in your eyes that detect different colors. So when you stare at one color for a while, you tire those cells out and when you look away you see the opposite color. If you look on a color wheel, they're complimentary colors that are opposite each other, like blue and orange.

So when you stared at the magenta for a while and looked up, you saw the opposite of magenta, which is green.

    Hope this helps!
