How come firefox can block pop-ups from some sites and not others?

  1. Firefox generally does a good job of blocking popups. How does it work? As far as I know, automated popups will be blocked. If you click on a link and that brings up a popup or new window, that will not be blocked because you asked for it.

    Your question lacks some details, but this is about the best I can say in regards to that.

    In regards to a plugin, you might want to use PopupMaster (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox... since it is widely used (as a result from reliable, thus more credible than that other Popup plugin).

  3. The makers of pop-ups don't exactly adhere to to standards.  They will do everything they can to make sure their pop-ups don't get blocked.

    It's really somewhat amazing Firefox can block as many as it does.
