  1. Water and Sewage is controlled by the government for the Welfare of the People as mandated in the constitution.

Before water and sewage becoming under government ownership, in the late 1800's, there were massive outbreaks of cholera, hepatitis, typhoid and dysentery. To prevent those water born diseases from becoming plagues and spreading to the whole population, the government took over control, since individuals couldn't afford to provide sewage disposal or water treatment.

It is very hard to stretch welfare of the people to include gasoline to go to the movie or hang out with your friends.

  2. I'm not sure what you mean by 'public utilities' but if you mean controlled by the government then you'd be wrong, electricity, natural gas, water and sewage are all managed by private companies that are regulated by the government.

  3. Because electricity, gas, water and sewer service are 'natural monopolies' where it is virtually impossible for a competitive market to exist.

Think of the chaos we would face is the streets were constantly being torn up to maintain several duplicate water systems.

On the other hand - gasoline is a product where free-market competition is in existence.

  4. this is not communist china

  5. Where I live, only water and sewer are public utilities.  The water taste bad and the city is being constantly fined for dumping **** into the water.

Electricity, and gas are sold by companies.
