please cite your proof. not just because 'everyone is saying it'

i would like proof that humans are causing it.

this reminds me of the last "global cooling" scare. what happened with that? anyone remember?

thanks.

  1. there is proof i mean the ice is melting at a fast rate and because it is election yr so the canidates wanna try to kiss the worlds ***

  2. People who make claims that there isn't enough proof are an awful lot like creationists who claim that evolution doesn't happen. It's staring you in the face, but you refuse to see it. The conclusiveness of global warming being caused by humans and it getting worse if we don't do something about it has been shown by at least 30 different scientific societies, including every single national science academy in the industrialized world. Am I to believe that this is some kind of cospiracy or global sheepism? Give me a break. Look at the evidence yourself, and do it with an open-mind; you'll change your tune. It's also Orwellian to see that Shell ad in this section all the time. Shell's is the opposite of environmentally friendly which just shows what a scam this all is. These corporations seem to have a lot to gain on this. There were electric cars on the road that worked really well and the car companies/government forced consumers to give them back and gave no explanation. Electric car owners tried to protest and fight it, but they lost. The cars were destroyed. So I'll never believe anything the liars say about wanting to help the environment.

  3. Global Warming is popular because it has so many people vested in it. The global warming community consists of politicians, journalists, and scientists, and non-technical people like the ones employed in Green Peace, who are making tons of money from the it. They have to push it to the extremes, where ethics are thrown out the window, to keep the myth alive. If global warming dies on the vine, then so does the money train. Many people would be unemployed, looking for new jobs.

The science is real but the results are anything but conclusive, and in fact prove that it is not happening. Global warming is based on ice core samples, dug out of the artic. The hypothesis is that a minor green-house gas that makes up less than 1 percent of our atmosphere can heat up the planet.

Computer models based upon hockey stick graphs have been proven bogus, but they are still used to push the myth. CO2 has been said to cause temperature increases, and its been proven to be just the opposite. A rise in temperature causes a rise in green-house gasses only after 800 years. This is the crux of GORES argument.

Global Warming is essential for pushing bogus taxes on corporations, producing ethanol, while causing huge increases in costs of food and causing starvation in third world nations. Global warming is PUSHED by the IPPC to stop coal plants from being built in Africa while the poor have to live without power.

It’s a fact that the IPPC, the UN, and like people celebrate nature, and value it more than people. They want to preserve nature, while many undeveloped nations suffer at their expense.

  4. It's an election year.

  5. Warming is accellerating with emissions, and the current rate of warming is far higher than past natural warmings (illustrating today's disconnect from past natural warmings).

It was determined last year that Greenland is melting much faster than scientists (including last year's IPCC report) predicted:

"Instead of sea levels rising by about 40 centimetres, as the IPCC predicts in one of its computer forecasts, the true rise might be as great as several metres by 2100. That is why, they say, planet Earth today is in 'imminent peril.'"

"Ground-based surface temperature data shows that the rate of warming in the Arctic from 1981 to 2001 is eight times larger than the rate of Arctic warming over the last 100 years. There have also been some remarkable seasonal changes. Arctic spring, summer, and autumn have each warmed, lengthening the seasons when sea ice melts from 10 to 17 days per decade."

"...the Pine Island Glacier has shrunk by an average of 3.8 centimeters annually over the past 4,700 years. But the Smith and Pope glaciers have only lost 2.3 centimeters of their thickness annually during the past 14,500 years. Satellite measurements taken between 1992 and 1996, though, show a loss of 1.6 meters in thickness per year on the Pine Island Glacier -- a figure that represents 42 times the average melt of the past 4,700 years."

Many past warmings coincide with greenhouse gas increases.  Even the ones that may ahve been triggered by the Sun's fluctuations and the earth's orbital variations appear to have been made far worse by greenhouse gases.

As for your global cooling myth, first there was no consensus on global cooling, so the situation is nothing like today's scientific consensus on global warming:

"Thomas Peterson of the National Climatic Data Center said a survey of scientific journals of the era showed that only seven supported global cooling, 44 predicted warming and 20 others were neutral, USA Today reported Thursday. "

Second, the factors that caused the cooling are all completely consistent with climate change theory, which predicts a lot more warming to come:

  7. Follow the money.  When you want to know why something happens...follow the money.

You hit the nail on the head - what real proof is there that humans are causing it?  None really.  Many will cook up some plausible answers, but there is not hard proof.  GW worshipers need to stop using the term Global Warming as a euphisim for man destroying the earth.  When they say "Global Warming' that's what they mean - it is wrong, but they are slowly brainwashing the public.

Here is the thing - global warming is real.  Temperatures are rising, nobody disputes that.  What is in dispute is that people are causing it.  Hogwash, I say!

Saying people cause GW is like saying that someone smoking a cigar at the end of a mall is negatively impacting the climate in the mall, and that all the people there are negatively impacted.

    Let's put man's contribution into perspective -

First, the earth is 66% oceans (no people there).  Of the 33% left, people have gone industrial in western Europe, and the eastern seaboard of the United States.  OK, there are some big cities here and there, and some manufacturing in other countries - those have not been around long.

Doomsdayers will say that these couple of relatively small areas of land, extremely small areas of the earth (including our atmosphere) are destroying the environment.  Poppycock!

Is there an impact - sure.  If we had no industrialization, the earth would be pristine.  And we would walk everywhere, kill animals to eat, live in teepees and have no ice for our Canfield's Diet Chocolate Fudge Soda.

It's a matter of perspective though, go back to the guy in the mall smoking a cigar.  Is he destroing the environment?  No.  Is he impacting it?  Of course - but not enough that it will cause the mall to be uninhabitable (even if he smoks endless cigars and gets his buddies to help him).  The local area will be a bit unplesant, but the bulk of the mall will not be noticeably impacted.

Why is Global Warming so popular?  It is a new fad for liberals who believe they need to protect us from ourselves.  It seems plausible, although there is no hard proof.

I can tell you this - if the Hollywood crowd is buying into it, we all better be very, very leery.

  8. Unless you're 60 years old, I doubt you would remember the "global cooling" theory either. It was not a widely accepted theory, and therefore didn't make a big "splash" in the scientific or public consciousness. I suspect you are mentioning it to try and "sew the seeds of doubt" on Global Warming.

Fire God: Warming and increased melting at the polar ice caps is happening on Mars, too.
