How come her sandals stink!?

One of my friend's friend invited us into her room the other day..she wasn't even wearing closed shoes or let alone sneakers and her feet wreaked! I couldn't even breathe...but what causes open flip flops to smell?

One problem my friend has is that she goes barefoot all the time... thus she has callouses on her feet... then when she goes to wear shoes, even if its flip-flops, the callouses get moist from sweat ( or even water) and stink like crazy because they are getting soft and sloughing off... yeah, you're right, that's totally gross, but that's what causes her feet to stink... so, don't know if your friend goes barefooted alot?

There are bacteria that lives on sweat that cause these smells. These bacteria can even survive on plastic or any surface for that matter where there is a residue of sweat left. Once it infects your shoes or sandals you have to either throw them away or clean them very well. At the same time you have to treat your feet because the bacteria also keep living on your feet and will infect your new shoes or cleaned shoes. Also the floor surfaces in her house needs to be cleaned thoroughly at the same time. Poor hygiene caused this in the first place.

I have a similar problem, it is caused by a reaction with the materials in shoes and sandals.  I like to wear sandals, but I must wear socks to avoid direct contact with the material.  And all types will cause that even the very expensive ones.  Of course if she is not clean it can happen as well.
