How come horse racing liquidity was poor yesterday where were the big players

How come horse racing liquidity was poor yesterday where were the big players? i mean i came early to look at some of the races and almost all the exchanges including the mighty betfair had poor liquidity. am i missing something or were the big punters taking some time off?
