Question:

How come i can't get a bottom retainer?

my orthodontist wants me to wear this wire on the bottom while only wearing a retainer on the top.

The wire, although concealed behind my teeth, does not feel comfortable and i would rather wear retainers on the top and bottom so i can feel total freedom at some times instead of wearing a permanent wire on the bottom concealed behind the teeth.

  2. I am in the dental field,  and all the dentists and orthodontists I know always give the patient a choice between the 2 types of retainers,  and I don't know why your orthodontist does not.   In most cases,  the orthodontist tries to get more people to use the removable ones than the cemented ones,   because of the ease of cleaning them.    Usually when a patient is going to get a cement retainer like you are,  it is because their parents believe the patient will not comply with wearing a removable one,  and don't want the teeth to go crooked again because the patient isn't wearing the retainers as instructed.

Ask your dentist why he is not able to offer you a choice with this,  there has to be a reason he wants to go the cemented route with you.
