How come i can't skate in hockey skates? They are like always too loose. My feet like bend to the side and so i can't keep my feet up right. But when i use figure skates, its much better, my my right foot sometimes also bends and so it starts to hurt after a little bit. Is it because the rental skates suck?

  1. I suspect that the boots are worn out. A hockey skate is also flat blade, while the recreational skates have a camber to the blade where the the blade gives a very small area that is on the ice if you are balanced 100% neutral.

  2. 1. Your ankles are probably weak because you don't skate. It doesn't sound like you learned how to skate early enough, you should've been on skates the first winter you could stand up to be a real natural skater.

    2. Use a smaller size, lose the socks or use thinner ones if you need to. I wear 10.5 or 11 running shoes, and size 9 skates.

    3. Lace them tighter. Hockey skate boots are very stiff to protect from pucks, and are hard to get tight.

  3. Ok. Well, skates generally aren't comfy to start off with if you aren't use to them, and if they aren't in the correct size. For hockey skates, make sure you get the size that is tight, but not to the point where you hurt yourself. Figure skates can sometimes be two sizes different from your shoe size. When I bought my first pair, I had to go two sizes down from my actual shoe size.  Hockey skates generally have an arched blade, and figure skates have a more flat blade with the toe pick. Be careful, the toe picks are easy to trip on.

Rental skates aren't the greatest, so. You can go to any skate shop, generally, and have your foot fitted for a hockey or figure skate. Good luck!

  4. Rental skates are supposed to fit anybody so you can guess that they are more likely to fit no-one especially after theyv'e had a bit of use and abuse.   Try a size smaller than you usually use as they are a bit loose fitting even if you do adjust the clips. I got my own as I got so sick of rink skates giving me gyp.  Yeah I think they suck too.

  5. well yea- theres that, but often times, figure skates have more ankle support, because of the jumps that we execute. also- hockey skates dont have toe picks. it could be any of these things or a combination of all of them. just fyi- rental skates seriously are crappy.

  6. possibly, it could just be the skates are too big for you or ur not tightning up tight enough.
