  1. Sounds like you missed your ovulation, it typically happens about two weeks before and two weeks after your period. So you should have had intercourse around the 3rd (since your period came the 17th).

  2. You've only been trying for 1 month, so you have nothing to worry about.  There is only a 3 - 20% chance of conceiving every month, so you have to give it some more time.  Within 6 months, 50% of couples get pregnant and within 12 months, 80% of couples get pregnant.  A fertility specialist probably won't even see you if you haven't been trying for at least 12 - 18 months, so just give it time and try not to stress too much about it, as that just makes it worse.

A lot of people have had success by having s*x every other day once their period stops, for the following two weeks.  Give it a try.

  3. It isn't as easy to get pregnant as people think - especially if you are trying.  You only have a 20-30% chance each cycle of getting pregnant.  It takes most couples 6 mo. to 1 year.

Don't stress and just have fun.

If you think you might be now, take a test.

  4. Keep trying.  Make sure your mate eats plenty of green leafy vegetables between s*x.

  5. it actually takes work. In a typical situation, you ovulate 13-15 days after your first day of your period.

You need to know when you ovulate.  Get this book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility (you can get it for less than $20).

Or get: Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor which is pretty precise to indicate when you ovulate. This costs about $150.

  6. A healthy couple with perfect timing (ie - having s*x right around or during ovulation) still has a 20-25 percent chance of success. It is completely normal for it to take several months of trying before getting pregnant.

To maximize your chances, try using an ovulation prediction kit or charting your basal body temp. That way, you will know that you are having s*x at the right time during your cycle, I also highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". You can order it online at amazon.com or a similar site, or find it/order it at a local bookstore.

Oh, and no if you have gotten your period and especially since it is pretty normal, you are not pregnant. If you get pregnant you will miss your period at which point a pregnancy test would be accurate enough to confirm if you were pregnant or not (because a missed period is still not a guarantee that you are pregnant, a test is needed to verify).

    Good luck.
