Question:

How come i dont fit in with the people my age, but i have a lot of friends who are older than me?

i'm in 7th grade and almost all my friends are in 8th grade, and my best friend is a highschool freshman.....i get made fun of a lot by the 7th graders but i fit in just fine with the 8th graders.....any idea why that is?

oh, and any tips to help me deal when the 8th graders all go off to highschool in a few months and im stuck at jr high without them for a year?

  1. Things will all balance out as you get older, sally. Dealing with kids a year, or even two years older than you means that you are in some ways more advanced than your own age group. Don't worry about it. I have the opposite problem. I get on with people sometimes less than half my age, and get bored with people as old as me. Go with the people you are interested in as long as you can keep up with them. I'm 72, by the way.

Because you are more mature than your classmates.  But ya know, the age difference is not really that great.  I'm sure that you can find a few peers in your class who actually are interested in scholastic achievement, and not just silly gender approved behavior.  Just stay quiet, and look and listen.

  3. I think it's just because your mind works differently, and you're perhaps more mature than your actual age [which is a very good thing, actually]. You should still keep in touch with your friends who have moved on to high school, but also try to make new friends in 7th grade, because you don't want to be stuck for an entire year without any friends.
