I mean I saw a sculpture of Persues (sp?) and all he had on was the helmet of Hades. David was also naked and paintings of battles some people were naked.

  1. because to them it was like the finest wear to us and very comfortable

  2. The Greeks had a different idea of creation.  They believe that somewhere there were 'ideals', the perfect tree, the perfect cat, the perfect woman, etc., and that everything on earth was created using these ideals as models.  They had a very good picture of the ideal human body, both genders, various ages, and their art reflected this.  They painted and sculpted human bodies with a precision and attention to detail that was centuries ahead of anyone else at the time, in fact the renaissance in the world of art began with the rediscovery of the art of ancient Greece and Rome.

Also the Greeks were not as hung up about nudity and the body as we are today.  The climate was warm there and clothes weren't thought as necessary as they are today.

  3. Because it was all about the beauty of the human body.  Artists were intregued that the human body was so intricate and beautiful... if you notice, the women are a bit chubby... its not about perfection, its about beauty.

  4. to show the beauty of the human form
