How come in the US the Hobo Spider has a 'bad name' and over here they don't ?

Also, Buthus Occitanus in France is harmless, and in north africa, the same species is considered dangerous ?

  1. I don't know why that's the case. It seems as though attention is paid to different critters in different countries.

    Another example is that, here in Australia, there are Brown Recluse Spiders, which were introduced from the US (presumably, by accident) many years ago. They are never mentioned, even though there are documented cases of serious bites from them here.

    The only spiders usually talked about in relation to Australia are Redbacks (the Aussie relative of the Black Widow) and Funnel-web Spiders. Brown Recluses are rarely mentioned here. Actually, they are known as Fiddleback Spiders here, but either way, they are never talked about. Loxosceles rufescens is the one that's been introduced, so it's a nasty one, and I think it should be given a bit more publicity, because I'm sure most people here in Aust. don't even know what they are.

    It does seem strange that a critter is noticed in one country but not in others. I'm not sure why it happens.
