  1. i use steel sinker,

  2. Lead is cheap, heavy, and can (where it is thin) be bent by hand. I can't think of anything else that matches it in these ways. Besides, the loss of lead to the water is minuscule.

  3. there is no real movement to ban fishing, unlike the movement to ban hunting and firearms.  Therefore, this lame excuse has not been used to attack fishing.

  4. Even worse than lead sinkers is lead-acid batteries that get lost in fishing waters or in sport use of boats.

The small amount of lead needed to destroy biological systems is not nearly as well known as it should be.

We are getting far less bird shot dropped into the swamps, lakes and rivers, but we should be switching sinkers to steel too.

It takes a long time for a sinker to decompose into effective poisons, but ounce for ounce they do as much long term harm as bird shot.

One would think that fishermen would want to avoid poisoning the water they fish in?

  5. I was going to use toys made in china but found the lead content just as high as lead sinkers.  I don't think most people know or believe all the damage lead does in our waterways.  Look how long it took to get it out of our gasoline even though it was harming our children.
