I do believe in fairies...I do... I do!!!! Clap your hands......and I leave gifts outside for them on occasion

Because they lived in an idealized world where doing good actually made a difference.  As people got older and realized that trying to do good doesn't help much, they grew to hate what they loved as a child.  Kind of a metaphor for growing up, aint' it?  (I mean, Smurfs.)
