How come many people believed in the Holy Bible without the Book of Mormon as a second witness?

How come many people believed in the Holy Bible without the Book of Mormon as a second witness? Did we always need the Book of Mormon even when we didn't have it? Or was the Holy Bible sufficient for us Christians who had it for a long time as God still speaked to all of us before the Book of Mormon ever came? God continues to speak to us today through the Holy Bible alone. So why do Mormons say that we need another book just to believe in the Holy Bible and add creditability to the Holy Bible when it fact Mormonism is adding more revelation and taking away revelation from the Holy Bible with lies? Hebrews 11:1 tells us what "Faith" is. "Faith" has nothing to do with the Book of Mormon.

  1. Dewd, you got owned.

Don't the Jews make the same arguments about why the New Testament wasn't needed?  Yeah.  Back to the drawing board for you.

  2. You said, "So why do Mormons say that we need another book just to believe in the Holy Bible "

    WRONG!!  Mormons don't say that.

The Book of Mormon is like a corroborating witness to the Bible, and visa versa.  If you have a strong first witness, but also have a strong second witness of the same thing, it would be pretty silly to ignore the second witness.  Sure, you have a strong case without just the first witness, but you have an even stronger case when you use them TOGETHER.

Yes, the Bible makes a strong case for Christ; and so does the Book of Mormon.  Together, they make an even stronger case than either book makes individually.

  3. If you can believe the Christian bible, you should be capable of believing anything, but apparently the Book of Mormon is just too much of a stretch.

  4. While it sounds to me like you already know the answer to your own question, I am going to give an answer for those who haven't yet decided.

If the Bible were complete and perfect, then when it comes to faith, every Christian would be on the same page. But, the only time it seems like non-LDS Christians are on the same page is when it comes to the evil Mormons ( or the evil JW's, etc.). But, instead there are many many denominations and non-denominations, all teaching something a little different from the others, yet all claiming to be teaching from teh Bible.

The Book of Mormon does not add to the Bible, it compliments the Bible. It is a second witness for Jesus Christ.

As for what "faith" is, would it surprise you to know that the Book of Mormon has a beautiful passage abouto faith, that takes that beautiful verse from Hebrews and enlarges it magnificently. Faith is the only way to accept the Book of Mormon and even the Bible.

And I don't see how caveman's question suggests that he thinks he's smarter than God. We do read the Bible, as it was inspired by God to His prophets and apostles. There is nothing in the Bible that even suggests that it was written by God, and not man. It WAS written by man. And God can help you understand what it is saying. God inspired the men who wrote it and God can inspire those of us who read it.

  5. How come many people believe in the Torah without the Gospels as a second witness?

Human beings believe what they want to believe, it's that simple. If you believe that Christ appeared in North America after the Crucifixion, then you are a Mormon. If you believe that Jesus of Nazareth was an influential prophet, but not the Son of God, then you may be a Muslim. If you believe all this is just a bunch of hogwash, then you're an atheist.

Personally, I don't understand why one needs a book of any kind to experience the glory of God and the beauty of the universe, but that's just my opinon.

  6. The LDS do not claim that anyone needs the BoM in order to believe the Bible.  We only claim that it is a second, confirming testament of Christ and His Gospel which God has provided.  The LDS accept and use the KJV Bible - as a seperate book, not dependant on, but working with the BoM.

  7. "Or was the Holy Bible sufficient for us Christians who had it for a long time as God still speaked to all of us before the Book of Mormon ever came? God continues to speak to us today through the Holy Bible alone."

Who's "us"?  You mean all 10,000 christian sects that all interpret the Bible differently?

What revelation in the Bible is "taken away" by the Book of Mormon?

I understand that you don't want to seriously investigate the Book of Mormon, but you should rethink your argument because quite frankly it is ridiculous.

  8. People claiming things like "we don't need more bible" or "God put all his words in one book" makes me think the God you believe in must not be all-powerful or loving.  Why would he STOP giving us His word?  Why would there be ANY kind of limitation?  Is there anywhere in the bible it states "And this Bible shall be the only word of God you EVER receive ever."?  And how many bibles are there???

It's just silly.  I do believe we need the Book of Mormon AND the bible, in my own opinon, to prove one another.  Both speak of and teach of Christ.  How can that be bad?  Maybe there is even more scripture out there, but we are not ready to receive it...

We don't read it like it came from God?  It didn't.  It was written by inspried men, compiled by other men, and retranslated thousands of times by other men.  God didn't personally write it with His own finger, so don't play that card.

I believe it, I know it is true, but I also believe there are many gospel principles more clearly explained in the BOM.

  9. I believe in the Bible.  A person can learn and understand God by its teachings.  The prophets in the Bible knew that there would be a time when more was needed.  They told us to expect it.

Isaiah 29:13  Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

  10. the Book of Mormon was written by a man who wanted nothing but fame and he got it.

  11. The Bible does not need a second book to witness to it.

Mormons presumably believe otherwise.  That's their loss, or gain perhaps.

  12. Why do we need a new testament? Wasn't the old one sufficient? Choosing which books to have faith in and which books not to have faith in is hard. That's one of the reasons why I stopped having faith all together. It made things much easier and much more clear for me.

  13. Your statements are inflammatory.  Phrog has given you the LDS view, and (s)he is right.  The LDS only claim the Book of Mormon to be another testament of Christ.  They do not claim it detracts from the value of the Bible, and in fact do use the bible as scripture.

Faith has everything to do with any christian religion.

  14. Jesus IS The Word!!  (John1:1).  "It is Finished"!!  Period! NO 'other' books can compare to His Holy Living Word! (The Holy Bible) That is Fact and Final!!

  15. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon?  If you haven't then how do you know?  Take the challenge to read it and see.  Don't you think that God might have had something to say to the people who lived here in the America's?  Think about all the writings that were not included in the Bible or that were lost.  Perhaps there are a few things that can be more clearly understood by two sets of different scripture.

Hebrews 11:1   Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Very true!  Now see one of the explanations of faith in the Book of Mormon: Alma Chapter 32:

21 And now as I said concerning faith.  Faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

26 Now, as I said concerning faith—that it was not a perfect knowledge—even so it is with my words. Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge.

27 But behold, if ye will wake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

28 Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your b*****s; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

29 Now behold, would not this increase your faith? I say unto you, Yea; nevertheless it hath not grown up to a perfect knowledge.

30 But behold, as the seed swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, then you must needs say that the seed is good; for behold it swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow. And now, behold, will not this strengthen your faith? Yea, it will strengthen your faith: for ye will say I know that this is a good seed; for behold it sprouteth and beginneth to grow.

31 And now, behold, are ye sure that this is a good seed? I say unto you, Yea; for every seed bringeth forth unto its own likeness. 40 And thus, if ye will not nourish the word, looking forward with an eye of faith to the fruit thereof, ye can never pluck of the fruit of the atree of life.

41 But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life.

42 And because of your diligence and your faith and your patience with the word in nourishing it, that it may take root in you, behold, by and by ye shall pluck the fruit thereof, which is most precious, which is sweet above all that is sweet, and which is white above all that is white, yea, and pure above all that is pure; and ye shall feast upon this fruit even until ye are filled, that ye hunger not, neither shall ye thirst.

43 Then, my brethren, ye shall reap the rewards of your faith, and your diligence, and patience, and long-suffering, waiting for the tree to bring forth fruit unto you.

How much more can you learn about faith from the passage I have quoted from the Book of Mormon?

Before you judge the Book of Mormon and those who believe it you ought to at least read it and then apply what you have learned about faith here to discovering if it is true scripture or not.

Consider, what if the Book of Mormon was true?  How would you face your Savior and tell him that you didn't even have the desire to pick the book up and find out for yourself?  How would you or do you feel when you try to share the Bible with someone and they reject it without reading it.  How would you feel if someone told you that the Bible was evil and that you shouldn't even touch it?  This is how we feel when people belittle the Book of Mormon and are afraid to read it.

I hope that this will help you to see things a little better from our perspective.  I am not sharing these things with you to put you down but in hopes to open your mind to other possibilities and your heart to understanding how we feel.

P.S.  The Bible was written by men who wrote down and  recorded God's word to mankind.  These were then translated many times.  We believe the bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.  Now, how do we know if it is translated correctly?  The Book of Mormon, the modern day prophets, and personal witness.  How do you know what are the mistranslations in the bible or what has been left out?

  16. Inasmuch as I don't believe you to be sincere in your questioning, I won't waste a lot of time with a lengthy response in answer to the question.  I'm thankful that so many people believe in the bible.  So do I.  I just wish they would read it, study it, ponder it's teachings, and then pray and ask God to help them understand it.

The bible prophesies of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon.  The Book of Mormon is God's word, just as is the bible.  What could be wrong with having another witness that Jesus is the Christ, the Promised Messiah?

  17. If you truly believe in the Bible then of course you realize how many "lost books" it mentions and references for you, but does not include. Therefore, to believe in the Bible and what it says, you should of course believe there are more books than just what is in the Bible.

The LDS do not say you need another book to believe in the Bible. But you should also consider all the Christians at the time of Christ and for many years after his death(about 100 AD) didn't have a "complete" Bible either. So many people believed in Christianity before there was this "first witness" Holy Bible as well.

  18. I am an Ex-Seminarian. I studied in a Catholic Seminary School to be a catholic Priest. I've read everything in the Bible, and attended a lot of Theology classes then. All that time, many questions arise in my mind. One of them is, if the validity of the Holy Bible as the only source of all truth, if so why are there so many churches? Why are there confusions and contradictions between these sects?

One day, as I was reading a very strange book called the Book of Mormon, I felt a different feeling nothing compared to the most sweetest feeling I ever had in my life. As if a light came down from heaven and I felt warmth in my heart, and all of a sudden little by little my confusions vanished. It was as if the heavens were opened before my very eyes.

I left the seminary school, joined the Mormon Church and served as a missionary for the Church.  I am proud to proclaim to the world that this book, even the Book of Mormon in reality contains the true and everlasting words of God.

Satan knew about this, and he deceives many not to partake of this holy words for he wants to bring them down to eternal damnation. If you are so doubtful about this book, ask a copy and read it with a sincere heart, asking God in faith if the Book of Mormon is really true and He will manifest it to you by the power of the Holy Ghost, and by the power of the Holy Ghost you shall know all things.

I testify to you these things to be true, in the sacred name of my Lord and my Savior Jesus Christ.

  19. We don't say that you can't believe in the Bible without the Book of Mormon. We day that the Book of Mormon is ANOTHER testament of Jesus Christ.

Not to be rude, but the idea that God only speaks to us through the Bible is really out there to me. Why can't God speak to us with Modern Revelation?

The Book of Mormon takes nothing away from the Bible.  And it's not lies.

You're last statement doesn't make sense to me. sorry. maybe I'm just missing something.

Hebrews 11:1- "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Can't you have faith in the Book of Mormon? Why can't you have faith in other things and still believe the Book of Mormon is true?

  20. I never would have assumed that a christian would actually complain about a second witness of Christ's divinity.

  21. Why are there half a million religions on the planet. People cannot agree who's deity is bigger I suppose. Sort of reminds me of an elementary school yard really.
