How come many people dont know about the Phoenicians?

Whenever i refer to them, people go like huh? Everyone seems to know only about the Greeks and the Romans these days. Why are Phoenicians not well known in this world ? They were great sailors around the Mediterranean sea and created the alphatet in which the stupid Greeks stole.

Maybe because the Phoenicians were not a dominating world power.

When you think about it, the Romans , Greeks & Spanish all left their mark by subjugating those they conquered & imposing their values & philosophies .....not the way the Phoenicians did business !

Stupid Greeks?? Well it was those stupid Greeks that gave birth to Western civilization. I would have answered this question nicely but since you insulted me, i wont even bother.

First of all it was the greek that brought the first age of enlightenment, but since your a typical leb your too arrogant to see this even though its the truth. Even the great general hannibal would have given both his arms and legs to have warriors like the spartans in his army. The carthaginians lost that war with the romans because they didnt recieve the support of all its people. Typical as even today our lebanese decsendents cant even stick together.

Please dont compare to the greeks. Im lebanese myself and im telling u this. The phoenicians did discover the alphabet and royal purple and many other things but they also discovered arrogance, extreme useless pride and gossip.

Now for your question about why many people dont know the phoenicians. That is because of 2 things. One is most people dont read enough these days to educate themselves about this. 2 is that most people in the middle east get offended when a lebanese refers to himself or herself as a phoenician and doesnt recognize that they are arabs after teh inital arab invasions from the gulf arab region.

Probably because they either didn´t finish the fifth grade, or they have forgotten the fifth grade.

We spend so much more time on the Greeks and Romans, because we have such extensive records of their literature, art, sciences, math and government.

Truly, very little is known about the Phoenicians, in comparison, including where they were really from.
