Is it some format I have to make the disc? The disc doesn't play on my cd player either.

  1. Is it a CD-R or a CD-RW? Most CD players (even older ones) should manage to play CD-Rs okay, as CD-Rs were designed to be backwards compatible. I've used CD players that were over 20 years old and they seemed to be fine with CD-Rs.

CD-RW discs on the other hand don't work on a lot of CD players, even some fairly new ones.

  2. Did you make sure to set the format of the disc to "Audio CD" in your burning software? Make sure that the disc is finalized, there should be an option for this somewhere in the software when you press burn.

  3. Just like DVDs have multiple functions as video discs or computer file storage, so do CDs in a smaller capacity.  Cds are useful for storing all kinds of computer formats, some related to audio, others completely unrelated, and a computer with the correct software can access those files.

For a music CD playable in any CD player, it must be burned specifically as such.  Some CD players may or may not recognize computer MP3 format, but most only play CDA files.  You must specific with the burning software that you're burning a MUSIC CD, not just a CD that contains audio files.

Some VERY old CD players (8 yrs or older) don't even recognize recordable CD discs since they were made before the advent of recordable discs.
