Question:

How come my computer never shuts down completely?

This problem has been going on for over 2 months. When I turn off my computer everything shuts down other than the fans and the keyboard (and for some odd reason num lock is disabled on the keyboard when this happens). I already tried rebooting my computer and disabling all my startup programs but it still has the same problem. My power scheme is on Home/Office Desk - monitor turns off in 20 minutes, hard disks never shut down, and it never goes into standby or hibernation.

My system build -

- Windows XP SP2

- Pentium 4 1.8 GHz

- IBM NetVista 6794 KYU [Desktop]

  1. it might be a hardware problem and to be sure of it,

copy files from your machine out unto a removable object.

Then format or upgrade your machine.

Formatting will be the best to declare the exact problem.if it still does that after formatting, it is surely a hardware problem.

Send to a hardware technician nearer you.

  2. I had that problem.  Solved it by updating my Bios
