  1. There is something wrong with the cable from your PC to your screen.

Check the connection at both ends.  If still no good -- replace the cable.

  2. I know this is going to seem really left field for an answer but maybe your registry needs a clean.

A friend of mine had this problem with her computer and I hadn't a clue what was going on.  We were able to establish that the computer was booting up properly by using keyboard commands to shut it down when we were sure it had finished loading.  However, the monitor would first come on and then go into standby before the computer finished booting up.  I think we were able to get into Safe Mode, not sure about that but I think we must have been, given what the solution turned out to be.

She took it into college with her and gave it to one of her teachers to look at.  So far as I know, the only thing he did was use a program to clean up the registry and then the computer was fine.  (He must have used Safe Mode since we couldn't boot normally.)  My friend didn't fully understand but thinks that's all he did.

We know for certain that her computer would have had various registry entries that didn't belong there because the person who gave/sold her the computer had prepared it for her by deleting all the games folders for the games he was keeping instead of uninstalling them properly.  Further down the track, it seems the computer finally suffered the last straw in registry changes and lost track of the monitor when Windows took over the control of it.

So if the driver doesn't solve the issue, I suggest using something like Ccleaner to clean up the registry and see if that fixes it.

If you mean by ports, that you have two places to plug in a monitor, no that isn't a problem.  One is hardwired to your motherboard and the other will be your video card.  This won't have made anything change.  If you mean that you have two monitors or video cards being shown in Device Manager, it certainly can't hurt to remove either that you think is wrong.  The worst that happens is your video card and/or monitor will get reinstalled with default drivers and you have to install the up-to-date ones.  If the video card has to have new drivers, the monitor often does as well.

  3. Since it works in safe mode, I would guess a driver problem since safe mode uses a basic video driver built into Windows. Go to the computer manufacturers site and download a new graphics driver. Or if you have a separate video card, go to the maker of the video cards website to get the driver. Either way, I'd say driver. To prevent any problems, make sure you uninstall the old driver first versus installing the new one over top the old one.

  4. The problem is probably with your display adapter.

are you using an on-board video card or a pci/pci express card.  Your computer may be trying to read threw a different port.  Look at the back of your tower and see if there are any other slots that you can plug your monitor in.

This is a hard question because I do not know all of the specifics.

      did you update drivers recently?

were you in set up mode recently?

what were you doing the last time you were using it when it worked properly?

If the monitor works in safe mode try updating your drivers.  This may fix any conflicts you are having.

Just make sure your monitor is plugged into the right one.  Try them both.

I had a similar problem the first time I installed a new video card.

If it was on the wrong port, and if you are using a pci card or equivalent your bios may have reverted to your 0ld setup,

If you are not using an on-board make sure that that feature is turned off in setup.

But it sounds like you have it plugged into the wrong one.

  5. It doesn't matter what answer you get, you can't see it anyway.
