How come my computer won't recognize my camcorder?

I have a canon elura 100 mini dv camcorder. I plug it in to my pc using my firewire cable, but the problem is it won't recognize it. I tried turning it on and off and made sure that the cable's completely plugged in and it still won't work. what could be wrong with it?

You may have to update your drivers. You should check with the Canon support site for your camcorder model.
