How come my dog won't p**p?

I found a male lab that was wondering the streets of a busy intersection. I had to help it. He did not have a collar or tags. He is now at my house but still has not taken a p**p. He pisses on every mailbox possible but still has not done the business.

  1. He could possibly be constipated because of something he ate while he was stray, I would suggest taking him to the vet, but if you can't do that right away, sometimes pumpkin pie filling out of the can will help animals pass difficult stool. But it could be something dangerous, so the vet is the better idea.

  2. First of all, you should take him to the Vet to scan him for a microchip number and at the same time they can take a look at him just to make sure that is not something serious.

  3. he is constipated.if dosent go within 1 hour get to the vet asap

  4. Many dogs won't p**p in a strange place for 3 days or so.  It's pretty natural.  Other dogs don't like to p**p when people are watching them.  In fact... few do.

However, if he's a stray then you really need to contact your local animal control (so they can put him in their found database in case his owners are looking) and check for microchip and other markings.

I've had dogs stolen from my yard and dumped out on the street with no tags before.  I also had a family friend who's dog was riding in the back of a pickup.  The dog slipped the collar and fell out.  The dog took 3 years for them to find.  :/

Just cover your bases as far as looking for owners.

  5. Maybe he hadn't eaten til you found him and it has to have time to eat more and work thru  so to speak

  6. How long ago did you find him?

Maybe he's already pooped for to-day.

Feed him dog food and if he hasn't pooped in 5 hours, see a vet.
