How come my ipod touch's itunes only download music why doesn't it download tv shows/ movies too?

my six is always in the computer so I wanted to know if there was an app or if I can upgrade my iPod touch's iTunes.note I don't want to use firmwire so how can I download movies/tv show/aduio books straight form my Ipod touch's itunes or app

because you have to drag them from your itunes library onto  your ipod.
