How come my tv doesn't change channels when I press it?

I just bought another cable box thingy with the giant silver remote. I have comcast and when i press a number, it shows up on the tv, then goes away and stays at the same channel.

For example: I'm watching channel 1 but i want to go to channel 99. I press 99 and it shows the numbers but stays at channel 1.

Is there something I should set up?

try the simple things like change to the chanel number the click ok,  sorry if this does not work but thanks for the 2 points i needed them 2 ask another question :P
