How come my vide camera won't work with my computer?

i try to put my video on to windows movie maker and i have tried to put the video on a after effects program. it won't take the video though. on movie maker it come out as a audio. and it won't go on at all on the after effects. how can i make it work. do i need to convert it. if so to what format. the video starts in avi format. thanks. 10 points best answer

  1. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

    Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.


  2. try mpeg4. sorry but to make the best movies use iMovie on a Mac. Windows is trifling with video types and compression rate. Follow the link below and they can help.
