Question:

How come my vision w/glasses is blurred when I look at a comp. screen?

I recently got glasses, but I'm on the computer alot. Everything looks fine when I wear them except for on the computer. Unless I focus on something on the screen when I'm wearing my glasses, my vision seems blurred and it eventually makes my head hurt. I have a LCD computer monitor if that makes a difference.

What causes this? I only wear my glasses when driving or when I go out, but if I plan on getting contact I'd like to get this problem fixed.

Thanks in advance. :)

  1. 2 responders have said , if you are over 50....but presbyopia usually starts around 40....

Your solution is simple for now, just remove your glasses for close work.

Another thing, is you may want to reconsider getting contacts, being as you don't wear your glasses all the time.

You can't just pop your contacts on and off every time you want to read or do close work. Focusing up close is worse with contacts on than it is with glasses.

  2. Are you old enough to have presbyopia? That's a condition, usually found in people over 50 or so, in which up-close vision suffers while the glasses correct for distance vision.

Can you read the computer screen OK without your glasses? If so, it might be best to remove your glasses when you're working at the computer. (You should really talk to your optometrist or ophthalmologist, though, for a definitive answer since everyone's vision differs a bit.)

  3. If you are over 50 you will need to get no line bifocals. They act like a trifocal. One for reading, one for computer, and distance.
