How come my voice sounds funny when I inhale helium?

  1. The speed of sound is different in helium and that causes the sound to resonant differently than in normal air.


  2. because the molecules are so close together I think ((ice has molecules close together making solid and gasses have very intergetic molecules so this type of gas must have a different molecular pattern...sorry if my science vocab is mixed up its summer for peter's sake!!....anyways, . It is a very restricted gas and therefore effects the outcome of your voice. Hey don't get mad if I'm wrong but it makes sense to me!! : }

  3. Sound waves travel through the air by making the air particles vibrate.

    Helium is much less dense than air so the pitch of your voice sounds much higher, and lets the voice vibrate faster

    Speed=frequency X wavelength, the wavelength is set by the vocal cords and the mouth cavity, so it is the pitch or frequency that changes
