The fashion police have decided that men are not allowed to show any thigh on the beach or at a pool. It is as stupid as the look of all the fools running around in board shiorts with underwear showing, which for some reason the fashionistas deem cool. Speedo type suits are much more comfortable, dry quicker, don't chafe your thighs when wet, and allow you to get a tan above your knees. In short, I think that may  be the reason they are looked down on.

Don't know what skinny-dipping and s*x have to do with Speedos.

The reason so many people dislike Speedos is that too many men who shouldn't wear them do wear them.  Just as too many women who shouldn't wear bikinis or, perish the thought!, thongs, do wear them.
