How come people think Van Halen is such a guitar god?

I've heard people say he's better than Hendrix! Ha! According to Rolling Stone he's #71, and I believe them. He's just playing scales really fast for God's sake!

I think that he was a guitar god of his time because of his style, like it was new for that  era, i don't think that he is anything special at all, i think its just because his fans from that time hadn't really heard anything better, van halen was just something people heard on the radio and made a stament about it, either that or it was the way he soloed. I think Hendrix was a lot better.

It is a matter of opinion. Probably sold the most albums. I personally think Clapton, Hendrix then VanHalen, although I am partial to Angus....
