If a person doesn't want to live anymore, who is anyone else to give their opinion or try to stop them?

I'm talking BESIDES religious issues, since some people think its "wrong".

But do we really need people here who dont want to be here? Wont they end up causing more harm then good?

  1. This question is so stupid...

There is no reason not to save someone..

  2. You are correct that if people really want to die they should be permitted to take their own lives.  And, any mental health professional will tell you that if someone is determined to kill themselves they will succeed (people even manage to kill themselves in psych hospitals). However, most people attempt suicide not because they want to die but to escape the terrible pain they are in.  Lots of times this pain can be treated but the person can't think clearly because they are in so much pain.  Being depressed is a horrible experience and when you are in the midst of it it seems like it will never end.  The reason for not letting them kill themselves while in this state is that they can not see that the future may be better.  Meds could help or life circumstances could change.  I think people deserve the right to choose whether they want to live or die but it is important that this is not something done impulsively and without the ability to think clearly (and I don't mean that everyone who tries to kill themself is psychotic, it is just hard to think clearly when you're in a lot of pain).

  3. BECAUSE!!!!

  4. People want to feel like they are doing some grand service for somebody. I would say 99% of the time those people that you speak dont truly give a ****. If you know the person, i could see why you would care though.

  5. First off, your question is ridiculous.

People who commit suicide aren't in their right mind, ya know?

How many people just wake up one day and say "I'm gonna go jump off that bridge today" or "I'm gonna go get a gun and shoot myself today" ???

Suicide is contrary to our survival instinct - it takes quite a bit to override a primal instinct - think about it?

You oughta be ashamed of yourself for asking such a callous question, and if you weren't trying to be cold, well, you're just plain stupid.

Don't get too depressed over my words though, the world is a better place with you in it regardless.

  6. no!!

people dig them themselves into a hole they think they cant get out off and they think that is the only way they can get out off it is by killing themselves but that is wrong if u know some 1 who is going to kill them self contact me ASAP because i can help

  7. This question is absolutely retarted but let me answer it.

Because the person that is ending his or her life is leaving behind people that care about them. The person obviously has a mental problem, and they should be helped. So if you were on top of a building and were just sitting there thinking and got up and slipped and is hanging on the side of the building for your dear life and someone comes up and you think that their gonna help but they just say "You slipped for a reason" and they let you go. Would that be wrong? Yes. If some little girl was about to hang herself, but someone walked in and stopped it. Would that be wrong? No.

  8. That is one of the most insensitive things I have ever heard.  Look up sympathy and empathy in the dictonary.

People try to stop people from commiting suicide because it is a bad thing.

I lost my father to suicide.  How would you feel if you lost a son or daughter to suicide.  Or a sister or parent.  Would you feel that they should have lived?  People are meant to be here and everyone makes an impact.

  9. WELL..... for me i think dying wont be the answer for their question

or the solution for their problem!

who knows where would we be after dying! maybe living is better!

people usually take hard decesions when they'r sad but they regret it so badly and wish that they havent done such a thing!

so we try to convence them that dying wont be the end of what they'r passing thro! maybe its just a begning of something worse!

  10. Because no one wants to see their loved one or friend kill themselves. All murderers go to h**l.If the family member cares or the friend cares, they will try everything they can to stop that person from ending it because they care for that person and want to see them live. That's why they try to stop them from doing it becaue they care about them and love them.I hope I helped you or answered your question so GOD BLESS you.

  11. no cause some people just get way to caught up in the moment and they might not really really wanna die, there just being dramatic or they feel low

and friends try to stop them so they can help them out of whatever depression there in, and make whomever it is wanting to die, want to live. idk

    lol

  12. because its usually quite messy, especially if they use a shotgun, I myself would not want to clean someones brain matter off the ceiling

  13. Okay, as someone who was suicidal for about 20 years and is no longer so, I would like to address this question.

I honestly can see what you are saying, but I also see what everyone else is saying.  No, people who no longer want to be here are NOT doing anyone "harm"  I don take offense to that one and find it inaccurate.  But many people don't understand the mindset of someone who is suicidal.  I'm wondering if maybe you are suicidal yourself??  Because when I was, I thought the world and all those close to me would be better off without me, I believed I was doing harm to them by staying alive.  In actuality that was not true-- I was a very good person who was not only needed but did a bunch of good for other people.

If you are suicidal, I would suggest you find someone to talk to.

If you aren't and are just being-- well mean, then I suggest you rethink your opinion and listen to what the other people are saying.

To everyone else: no, I am not saying suicide is a good thing, I'm just trying to get people to understand what goes on in the mind of a suicidal person.  If I can get better after 20 years of being suicidal, anyone can.

Oh yes, and the WORST thing you can say to a suicidal person is "if you kill yourself you'll hurt me" because that just leaves the person feeling guilty.  Try to think of more positive ways to talk to the suicidal person.  It makes a WORLD of difference-- I know that personally!!!
