  1. ADHD isn't all bad. It has advantages too. For example, I can normally read REALLY fast and comprehend it. When there's a crisis, I'm usually the only one who's calm, because the path to the solution is so clear to me. My mind can see MANY possibilities all at once not to mention that everything FEELS like a crisis a lot of the time anyway. So, when disaster strikes, its just another day for me.

I love chaos and being in the thick of a situation where you have to think fast. Thats when my talents really show. Everyone I know agrees that I'm great in a crisis.

I'm a computer guy. I solve problems for a living. No two days are ever quite the same. Plenty of times, I'll find an answer no one else thought of just because my mind doesn't quite work in a linear fashion. What's obvious to me, takes other people a lot longer to figure out or understand.

But, then... I did poorly in school and I can never find my keys. I haven't been to work on time in twelve years. I have to write down EVERY little thing or I forget. I get lost in my own home, because I forget where I was going to what I was going to do when I get there. My mind is all over the place and won't settle down.

Its like playing where's Waldo. Only Waldo is the task at hand and the crowd is all the other stuff I'm thinking about. Its hard to find Waldo among those other people.

I take Adderall. Its a stimulant. It speeds up the part of my brain that controls impulses. It makes Waldo stand out like a beacon. It helps me stay on task.

It makes my blood pressure go up. It locks my mind down. I actually read slower on the medication. It slows me down. It stifles my creativity. But, I get a lot done and I kind of like not having to take the time to walk all through the house to make sure I didn't put meat in the pantry rather than the fridge or leave the sink running because I got bored waiting for it to fill up and walked away.

I take my meds at work to do my paper work or when I have to do taxes or something like that. If I have some downtime where I don't need to be on time or remember anything important, I don't take them. When I want to create a picture, I wait until the meds have worn off. Then I brainstorm and come up with an idea I like, then I take the meds to make sure I finish the job otherwise, I wind up with stacks and stacks of unfinished drawings.

It helps, but its not a cure. It helps me with my symptoms, but it doesn't let me enjoy the advantages I get from my ADHD. Most of the time, I notice when I'm not on the meds, rather then when I am on the meds. The meds don't really have any particular sensation at all. I just make fewer stupid mistakes when I'm on them.

    Its not natural.

    Good luck.

EDIT: I just read what the other guy said about talking 90 words a minute. Apparently it works for typing too. LOL

  2. Most people I have spoken to say that it speeds up their heart, makes them talk ninety words a minute and makes them too hyper.

  3. Maybe being ADHD in the first place has something to do with it...

  4. well my adderall makes me very speedy. ill paint the house , clean the house and still will need something to do. it just makes me abit on jittery. some days are good for that and some days i just want to rest.
