How come people tell you not to stand in front of an emergency exit when if there was an emergency surely you would run through it?

It is so you are not blocking the exit.

Because the person telling you to move want to escape first.

Because they don't know if you have the logic,... sense to know to leave.  Perhaps it's a language or cultural misunderstanding.  Perhaps you might have packages that would slow you down and semi-block the exit causing stampeding, trampling and death.

Because you're visually blocking it, so if someone needs it and looks around they may not be able to tell it's an emergency exit because you could be blocking the sign.
