you can't make points in baseball but you can score and/or drive in runs.

In order to be a starting catcher in the major leagues, it's necessary to be able to play excellent defense. If a catcher can't throw guys out, or doesn't know how to work with pitchers, they can cause a lot of problems. The opposing team may steal tons of bases. Pitchers may feed a hitter gopher ball after gopher ball. Castro is not a strong defensive catcher. Schneider is. The Mets start Schneider because they believe he prevents more runs from scoring than Castro would be able to drive in.
