I went to a professional tennis match and was surrounded by corporate rich white people everywhere. I went to a professional golf tournament and there were corporate rich white people everywhere. And I watched the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes and Preakness and the people who owned the horses were really rich white people. Why do rich white people choose these sports as their favorites?

  1. Tennis, golf, and horses became popular for an "old-money" richness because for a long time you had to be a member of a club or a barn to have the opportunity to take part in these sports. So basically, these interests were passed down for generations. Now more "new-money" people take part in these to socialize with friends. It is mainly white people because until recently, most african-americans could not become wealthy due to segregation and slavery. My parents are not big horse riders but we attend horse shows to socialize with friends. We play tennis and golf because we belong to country clubs to again -- socailize with friends.

  2. these sports welcome every color of the rainbow.  does tiger woods ring a bell?  isnt edgar prado from argentina?  sounds like sour grapes to me.

ps . i am a poor white girl and they are my favorite sports.

  3. It's not just RICH white people. I'm not even near rich ( I have 2 dollars in my bank account!) and I love horse racing. It's a magical sport to me. Just the smell of the track brings back memories and makes me incredibly happy.

Rich people, not just white people, can do it because their just that - rich. It takes a ton of money to buy a horse, keep a horse and run a horse. You can't be poor to do it.

  4. Rich white people are no different than the middle class or poor. There are all types of sports that people like. In your question if rich is a given why didn't you put middle class or poor in place of rich?

  5. I think they have nothing better to do

  6. Tennis: they can watch relatively attractive young women (and men) jump about in tiny skirts(/shorts) as they lean over and grunt suggestively.

Golf: They feel like they can connect to the players. Plus it's a sport they can actually do.

Horses: They like to show that they're better than everyone else because they can afford to abuse specially bred super-expensive horses.

  7. are you white and rich, if not what are you doing there.  Pretty much at all professional sporting events the majority of the crowd is white because they can afford to go, at least in teh good seats, and not in the nose bleed sections...oh and I think black people like gold just as much as white people.  have you ever seen the A-Team?

  8. They need something to spend their money on.

  9. they like it

    hope that answered helped

  10. That's a stereotype. I have four horses and I don't make a lot money. I budget to go to shows and go to school at the same time. It takes money to keep horses but it takes a lot of work.
