NOTE: When I mean sixth generation I mean gamecube, ps2, and the xbox.

When I mean seventh generation consoles I mean wii, ps3, and xbox360 but only if you are using standard definition high definition will be crystal clear.

One thing that I noticed when playing my gamecube, playstation 2, and wii is that I find that the image is slightly blurry.

I have found an option to disable the blurrynes in two gamecube games. One being super smash bros. melee and the other pikmin 2.

Smash bros. calls it the flicker filter.

What I really don't understand it that WHY DO THEY HAVE A FLICKER FILTER IF IT WILL ONLY MAKE THE PICTURE LOOK BAD?

  1. On what kind of television? I bet that's probably the issue you're having. Especially since it's all the consoles that are doing it, not just one of them.

The only reason I could think why a ps2 might look blurrier than a ps1 on a standard tv is that its models and animtions tend to be done sharper and with better detail. It is the same 480i, but there is more detail, lines are finer, framerates are higher. Because of interlacing, this could look visually like fine details getting blurry. Maybe.

If you're using an lcd TV, that could explain it. They are better with higher resolutions. Or if your tv is upconverting the video to progressive scan, native 480i video could look bad if the flicker filter is on.
